Rooted in the Rh\u00f4ne Valley, the story of L\u2019Oratoire des Papes begins in the 19th century with the acquisition of the first vineyard parcel in 1880. In 1897, \u00c9douard Amouroux and Caroline Establet married in Ch\u00e2teauneuf-du-Pape. They raised their two sons, L\u00e9once and Paul, among sun-drenched pebbles and rows of vines swept by the Mistral, passing on their deep attachment to this singular terroir.<\/p>\n

On July 30, 1926, L\u00e9once Amouroux founded L\u2019Oratoire des Papes on his mother\u2019s family land, under the protection of an oratory dedicated to Saint-Marc, patron saint of winegrowers and protector of the vines against the elements. The small chapel, built in the 18th century, still stands today and remains a gathering place for annual religious processions.<\/p>\n

Yet one element has remained unchanged since 1926: its label, now one of the appellation\u2019s most iconic signatures.<\/p>\n

A timeless source of wonder, the L\u2019Oratoire des Papes label is an artistic creation in the service of exceptional craftsmanship. With its Art Deco aesthetic, touches of Gothic Revival influence and striking red palette, it is a work of art in its own right.<\/p>\n

The subtle irregularities in the motifs hint at the hand of the local artist who originally drew the label. Once the design was complete, the colors were applied and fixed through lithographic printing. The ornamental frieze recalls the twin columns found in cloisters and priories. Set within a medieval-inspired banner, this imagery draws on the Gothic Revival, harking back to the roots of France\u2019s architectural genius.<\/p>\n
